Crown of Midnight

Rating: 5 out of 5.

After finishing the buddy read of Wolf Hall, I quickly came back to the Throne of Glass series. I don’t know whether to read a different book between each one just to make it last longer! I don’t want it to end!

Crown of Midnight leads on from after Celaena has been crowned the king’s champion. She is given missions to assassinate particular people who are threatening or looking to overthrow his rule. However, unknown to the king, she is faking every death, putting now only her freedom at risk but the lives of her and everyone she cares about.

I was slow to start this but that’s just because I got distracted by playing The Sims! As soon as I dedicated time to read I was completely hooked.

It was completely impossible for me to choose between Chaol and Dorian. I think they are both amazing characters and felt heartbroken for both of them! I completely respect Dorian for the choices he makes even though it makes you feel so sorry for him. I did feel like Celaena was a bit harsh at the one major part as, even though she was distraught, she didn’t even ask Chaol for his version of events. Which was probably on purpose to show a part of Celaena’s real character which is fully revealed later at the end of the book. I don’t know why but I completely wasn’t expecting that! Also, Sarah J. Mass has a male that cries. Points for that!

The ending perfectly sets you up for the next book and makes you want to find out what happens as it’s obvious something pretty awful and intense is going to happen soon!

What did you think of this book? Do you prefer Chaol or Dorian?
