Books, Monthly wrap up

March Wrap Up

It has been a busy month! This term has felt like the longest term in the world. Spent the first two weeks still teaching in school. Then we were back open to all children so I was back with my 1-1 child but the actual teacher was off so I had to spend another two and a half weeks setting up all the teaching for the supply as well as trying to do my own job. Final week of term and I was finally back to just doing my job. Although nice to see us teaching assistants getting some recognition in The Guardian! A lot of people still think we just sit and play with children all day…

Books read

I read three books this month, which is fairly normal for me but, after seeing everyone else’s wrap ups, seems like nothing!

Lol at me trying to edit book covers on!

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff was my favourite read of the month. I’ve never read anything like it! I haven’t reviewed this one but may review the series as a whole when I’ve finished.

Malice by Heather Walter I was lucky enough to get an e-arc of this from NetGalley. It was one of the best retellings I’ve read and put the whole tale of Sleeping Beauty in another light. I’ll have a review of this coming up soon!

Dublin’s Girl by Eimear Lawlor I was sent a proof copy of this by Head of Zeus and I had such high hopes for this! Unfortunately, the writing was lacking for me and I wanted to dnf it but kept pushing. I know it was a proof so wasn’t in it’s final state but it read like a first draft. So many inconsistencies and the characters just fell flat even though they were based on real people! I haven’t reviewed it yet and unsure if I should?

Books bought

Ok so there’s a lot. My excuse is I won a £20 voucher from Books2Door in their World Book Day giveaway. And then in my head logic said I still needed to get the total cost up so I could get free delivery…

All the books!

Shades of Magic series by V.E. Schwab Schwab is raved about everywhere and I’ve been pulled in by the hype!

Daughter Of Smoke And Bone series by Laini Taylor Another one that seems to be loved by everyone on Bookstagram.

Red Rising series by Pierce Brown So I’ve seen mixed reviews for this one. People seem to either hate it or love it. I thought I’d give it a go and expand my sci-fi reading. I think I’ll be going in with low expectations (which sometimes works out better!)

The Kingkiller Chronicle series by Patrick Rothfuss The first book in this series seems to be on many people’s favourite book list. I am aware that people also say this series isn’t finished. Another A Song of Ice and Fire situation?

Other

I’ve also spent a lot of March panic knitting something for my housemate’s birthday which was on the first of April. No I haven’t finished. She’s very understanding though! I can’t show it yet in case she sees!

I’ve also been rewatching Schitt’s Creek because it’s apparently now my comfort show!

How was your March?
